Wesley's Notes for Genesis nine:eleven
9:11 In that location shall not whatsoever more exist a flood - God had drowned the globe once, and even so it is as provoking as ever; yet he volition never drown it whatever more, for he deals non with us according to our sins. This promise of God keeps the sea and clouds in their decreed place, and sets them gates and confined, Hitherto they shall come, #Job 38:ten|,xi. If the sea should menstruation but for a few days, equally it doth twice every twenty-four hours for a few hours, what desolations would it brand? So would the clouds, if such showers as we have sometimes seen, were connected long. Only God by flowing seas, and sweeping rains, shews what he could practise in wrath; and all the same by preserving the earth from being deluged between both, shews what he can exercise in mercy, and will do in truth.
